In Miri, JB man fined for illegally having over RM18,000 in bank account

MIRI (July 15): A 54-year-old man was today fined RM500 in default one week in prison in the Magistrates’ Court here for unlawfully possessing RM18,100 in his bank account four years ago.

Magistrate Randu Rangen convicted Teh Yeong Ngoh, 54, of Taman Megah Ria, Masai, Johor Bahru on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 37(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance Sarawak 1958.

The Section carries a jail term of up to three months and a fine of up to RM500, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Teh was found to have RM18,100 in his bank account.

He committed the offence on March 12, 2020 at around 12.10pm in a bank at Jalan Nakhoda Gampar here.

Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman prosecuted the case, while Teh did not have legal representation.
