KUCHING: The city of Kuching is set to host the inaugural Sarawak Choir Conductor’s Workshop, a groundbreaking event proudly presented by the Kuching Choral Society (KCS) and supported by the Malaysian Association of Music Educators (MAME).
Scheduled from Jan 26 to 28, 2024, at the Telang Usan Hotel, this historic workshop promises to be a melodic journey like no other.
Guiding this musical extravaganza is the prominent Susanna Saw, a distinguished global figure in music education, renowned for her roles as a lecturer and choir director at the University of Malaya (UM) and the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA).
She is an illustrious music educator, speaker, facilitator, and adjudicator known globally. Her extensive experience and accolades, including organising the 24th International Kodály Symposium in 2019, position her as the ideal facilitator for the Sarawak Choir Conductor’s Workshop.
Participants can expect a wealth of insights covering essential topics such as recruitment strategies, audition processes, vocal pedagogy, basic conducting gestures, repertoire reading, and rehearsal techniques.
In collaboration with MAME, this comprehensive curriculum aims to empower aspiring conductors with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in choral leadership.
Kuching Choral Society president Benedict JC Lo extends a warm invitation to music enthusiasts, emphasising the strategic design of the workshop to introduce the fundamentals of choral conducting, strategies for community building, and insights to prepare choirs for competitions.
“The president emphasises the importance of participants in shaping the choral landscape of Kuching and Sarawak. The workshop encourages a celebration of the beauty of choral music and a collective effort toward building a stronger, more harmonious future,” said KCS in a statement.
As the workshop beckons, it invites music enthusiasts to be part of this historic venture, stressing that participation is not just an opportunity to learn but a vital contribution to the evolution of Sarawak’s choral music scene.
Join in the celebration of choral music’s beauty and unite in working towards a stronger, more harmonious future.
