PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) should be included in the national education syllabus so that issues on it will not be raised by the public, said a PKR leader.

Sabah PKR delegate Antakor Rasam said this was also to ensure that there will be no public suspicion towards MA63.

“MA63 has been a secret for a long time. Anyone who spoke about it will be detained under the Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA).

“Sabah and Sarawak were poor despite being rich in natural resources but are listed among the poorest states in Malaysia. That’s why Sabah always brings up MA63,” said Antakor at the PKR national congress on Sunday (Nov 26).

Antakor said that a clearer understanding about MA63 will enable those in Peninsular Malaysia to better understand the matter.

At the same time, he proposed for the Malaysia Day celebration, which only focuses on events in Sabah and Sarawak, to be revised.

“It seems that this celebration is only for Sabahans and Sarawakians alone,” he added.

Meanwhile, Antakor also suggested that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim be regarded as the “Father of Malaysia” for the latter’s support and recognition of East Malaysians in the Cabinet.

“As Prime Minister, he (Anwar) appointed a Deputy Prime Minister from Borneo.

“He also formed a high-level joint committee on MA63,” said Antakor.

Antakor also said that the Inland Revenue Board (Amendment) Bill 2023 was passed in Parliament to enable Sabah and Sarawak state government representatives to be appointed as LHDN board members.

“This was never done by any Prime Minister before this. Therefore, without a doubt, Anwar should be named as the Father of Malaysia,” added Antakor.

Top PKR leaders are expected to deliver their winding up speeches later Sunday (Nov 26) evening.

Anwar is also expected to make an “important” announcement on the economy during his winding up speech as party president later Sunday (Nov 26) evening.
