KUCHING, Sept. 16: The Ministry of Communications guarantees internet access at Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK) is at an optimal level to accommodate about 5,000 visitors on the eve of Malaysia Day 2026.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) along with the telecommunications companies concerned started preparations at the site since last Sunday to ensure smooth network infrastructure.
"To ensure that every guest and media officer present tonight can enjoy fast internet access, several temporary improvement measures have been implemented.
"This includes the provision of access points in the hall as well as the placement of Cell on Wheels (COW) vehicles.
"Even, Telekom Malaysia (TM) has also upgraded internet speeds from the initial planning of 800 Megabit per second (Mbps) to 2 Gigabit per second (Gbps)", he said.
He said this after conducting a survey visit to the Network Operations Centre (NOC) in BCCK, today.
The review session was also attended by the MCMC's top management, including Sarawak MCMC Director.
In the meantime, Nie Ching appreciated telecommunications service providers including TM, CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, XOX and Digital National Berhad (DNB) for their cooperation in ensuring smooth coverage throughout the event.
Regarding the monitoring of social media content, he said that MCMC was always vigilant against spreading sensitive issues throughout the event.
"MCMC is also working closely with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to monitor and deal with any 3R transfers of religion, royal institution and race on social media platforms in order to maintain order and harmony throughout this celebration", he said.
