KUCHING, 16 Sept: Sarawak has recorded investment value exceeding RM116 billion from domestic and foreign investments (DDI and FDI) in five years since 2020.
Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the achievement reflects increased confidence in Sarawak as well as strong economic development of the state.
He said the progress of Sarawak should be continued by ensuring that development benefits can be felt by people, including in terms of education, employment opportunities and economic opportunities.
"The real meaning of development is when we have a better future, quality education, decent wage employment opportunities, broad economic opportunities", he said in his message for Malaysia Day 2026.
He said that development should also ensure families in urban and rural areas enjoy a more comfortable life.
Awang Tengah said in celebrating Malaysia Day, people should also continue to understand and respect the foundations of Malaysia's formation including the 1963 Malaysian Agreement (MA63) and Intergovernmental Committee Report (IGC).
He said the two documents were not just historical records, but reflected the understanding, assurance and spirit that underpinned the formation of the Federation of Malaysia.
"Respecting MA63 and the IGC Report means respecting Malaysia's own spirit of a Federation built on trust, mutual respect, as well as recognition of the rights and interests of all", he said.
He said Sarawak is now moving towards development as a developed and high-income state without detracting from the identity and harmony of society.
"Malaysia's power lies in the strength of the provinces and states that make it up. As Sarawak progressed, so did Malaysia. When Sarawak prospered, Malaysia became stronger", he said.
