KUCHING, 15 Oct: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is monitoring online content following tensions between Malaysians and Indonesians over the issue of rabies, but so far has not received complaints about content interpreted as extreme jelly.
Communications Minister, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said that the monitoring was carried out when a raging issue sparked anger among the people.
"So far, MCMC has not received complaints from the public about any content that is interpreted as extreme in relation to this issue.
"We know and we understand people's anger. We are also upset about the seemingly endless dust issue", he said in a press conference after witnessing the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for implementation of Kuching Smart City and Digital Connectivity project at the Kenyalang, Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.
Fahmi, who is also a Union Government spokesperson said the Federal Cabinet had submitted a letter requesting provision of assets to help firefighting efforts, but has not received any response so far.
He said further developments in this regard are expected to be known through the meeting of the Assembly of Ministers which will be delivered by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi or Minister of Natural Resources and Sustainability, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup on Friday.
Last Saturday, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Malaysia was still waiting for Indonesia's response on the offer of forest and land fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan that caused cross-border dust.
