SARIKEEI, Oct 2: Nyelong By-Pass Road will be upgraded to a four-lane two-way road to increase the capacity of the route, in addition to construction of new road connecting Nyelong By-Pass with Kwong Ming Minah to package traffic flow in the city.

Deputy Minister of Logistics and Commodities, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, said the two projects are important in providing a smoother alternative route due to increased traffic volume, especially on Repok Road.

He said, the project to upgrade Nyelong By-Pass Road involves a 3.6 kilometre line which will be upgraded from two standard JKR R3 one-way road to four standard JKR U5 two-way road.

"The RM86 million project was implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MIPD) Sarawak with Department of Public Works (JKR) as executive agency.

"The capacity increase of this road is expected to facilitate the movement of users from surrounding areas to downtown Sarikei as well as the route to Tanjung Manis", he said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the project in Jalan Alamanda, here today.

Meanwhile, he said the new Nyelong By-Pass-Kwong Ming Minah road of about two kilometers with a 25-metre road reserve will also be built to help reduce congestion, especially near Sarikei National High School (SMK) at peak times.

The RM12 million project under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) will complement the existing road network, thereby enhancing connectivity between regions and supporting local economic activities.

In the related development, RM5.32 million of compensation was disbursed to land owners, covering 28 out of 29 properties required for the implementation of the project's land acquisition. -TVS
