MIRI (Aug 5): The Lutong Chapter of Junior Chamber International’s (JCI) ‘MYY Usahawan Muda’ initiative successfully launched RM12,138 for Miri Hospital’s eye clinic to purchase a Tonopen.
In a press statement, it said of the amount raised, RM4,138 was collected during MYY Usahawan Muda’s Carnival Day held at Boulevard Shopping Mall here on July 28, while the rest was pledged from Torr Energy Sdn Bhd and Giga Bumi Sdn Bhd respectively for RM3,000 and RM5,000.
JCI Lutong said the MYY Usahawan Muda, an initiative designed to empower children aged 7 to 12 with financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills, featured 46 young participants.
The initiative kicked off at the Miri City Green Community Hub with Workshop Day on July 20 as the participants had hands-on experience with DIY product creation workshops conducted by Bryan Kong from T4 Times Square, Amy Sia from Fine Candles & Crunchies, and Samantha Woi from JCI Lutong.
On the following day, participants engaged in a Business Talk Day where they attended a financial literacy seminar from Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd and learnt presentation techniques from ChampSpeak.
The climax of the initiative was Carnival Day as the young entrepreneurs were tasked with putting their newly acquired skills to the test, creating booths and conceptualising businesses that offered arts and crafts, beverages, and desserts.
Miri mayor Adam Yii graced the event’s closing ceremony, accompanied by event organising chairperson Dr Samantha Ang and JCI Lutong president Sheryl Lee.
Meanwhile, Ang expressed her gratitude to the sponsors for making the event a success and invited young parents in Miri to join JCI Lutong in creating opportunities for children, leaving a positive ripple effect for future generations.
JCI Lutong’s next event is the ‘Brave Mentorship’ programme beginning on Aug 17, which pairs students with industry mentors to teach them responsibility, ambition, action, gratitude, and love.
Registration for the programme is now open. For more information, contact Brave organising chairperson Lee Jing Yau on 012-78301833.
