KUCHING (Aug 31): The Padawan Chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI) is eyeing to reach its goal of recruiting 100 new members by the end of this year.

According to the president Douglas Bong, for the year to date, the chapter has signed up 88 new members.

“This is a part of our action plan for 2024, namely to welcome in 100 new members by the end of the fiscal term ending Dec 31 this year,” he said when met here recently.

Douglas also said the new JCI Padawan secretariat at Mile 3 here, which was officially opened in July this year, had helped facilitate their recruitment drive.

“This unit serves as a centralised place for the JCI members to hold their activities.

“We regard our new secretariat as representing eight years of collective hard work by all members and past presidents.

“Establishing this place has not been easy, but we believe that it will create an environment that can elevate JCI Padawan to greater heights.

“This place will be a place for creating memories, forging impactful legacies and deepening friendships.

“Big thanks to our local secretary Alaric Sim, and all our committee members including our past presidents for all their hard work,” he said.

Meanwhile in his remark, Sim said JCI Padawan would proceed with its ‘Zero Waste’ campaign, which kicked off during the chapter’s second-edition ‘Embrace Market’ at Saradise Kuching last weekend.

“We ran the campaign as one of the sessions during our ‘Embrace Market 2.0’ recently.

“The next one will be carried out very soon, taking place at our Mile 3 secretariat.

“The module blueprint is from JCI Malaysia, and for the upcoming drive, our focus is educating our members more about sustainability.

“It is unavoidable that in many of JCI Padawan’s projects, we are using many kinds of disposable resources such as papers.

“Under the campaign, the key goal is instilling in our members the spirit and practice of sustainability, meant to lead to reduction and prevention of wastage.

“This is especially important for future JCI leaders,” said Sim.

Accompanying Douglas and Sim were JCI Padawan vice-president (community) Sasha Bella Kho and member Martin Bong.
