KUCHING: Nearly 350 locations across Sarawak are expected to benefit from improved internet connectivity under the RM545-million National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) 2 Phase 1 initiative.

Communications Minister, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said letters of acceptance have been issued to companies responsible for implementing the project across six clusters in the state.

He said the initiative would help address connectivity issues, with work expected to begin almost immediately.

“We have today handed over the letters of acceptance to those responsible for managing the six clusters to be implemented throughout Sarawak.

“We are planning for more than 300, almost 350 locations, throughout Sarawak to enjoy better internet connectivity,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex here today.

Fahmi said the companies involved could proceed with implementation once they signed the letters of acceptance.

He said contractors are expected to begin mobilising equipment to the identified tower construction sites within the next few months.

“This will begin almost immediately,” he said.

Fahmi had earlier briefed Abang Johari on the JENDELA initiative, which forms part of efforts to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure across Sarawak.
