KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 18: A total of 32 areas across the country have recorded air pollution index (IPU) readings at unhealthy levels as of 5 pm today.
According to the Malaysian Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the highest readings were recorded in Johan Setia, Selangor (183), while four other areas in the state also recorded unhealthy IPUs, namely Shah Alam (169), Petaling Jaya (162), Banting (161) and Klang (159).
Sarawak also recorded the total number of areas with the highest unhealthy air quality, namely eight areas, including Kuching (174), Samarahan (167), IPD Serian (166), Sibu (162), Bintulu (161), Sarikei (155), Sri Aman (154) and Kapit (153).
In Perak, the affected areas are Seri Manjung (172), Tasek Ipoh (160), Tanjung Malim (153) and Pegoh Ipoh (111), while Johor includes Segamat (160), Tangkak (158), Batu Pahat (153) and Kluang (152).
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan recorded three areas at an unhealthy level, namely Val (175), Seremban (165) and Port Dickson (153), while Melaka included Alor Gajah (160), Bukit Rambai (158) and Malacca City (136).
Putrajaya also recorded 172 IPUs, with almost the same readings being recorded at Batu Muda (167) and Cheras (165) in the capital.
In addition, two areas in Pahang also registered unhealthy IPUs, namely Temerloh (155) and Jerantut (151).
IPU readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 301 above (dangerous). -TVS
