SIBU (Nov 20): A total of 89 students from SMK Bukit Assek, SMK Jalan Oya and SMK Bukit Lima took part in the three-day Junior Youth Camp Programme held here from Nov 17 to 19.

The event held at SMK Bukit Assek concluded yesterday with the official closing ceremony by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu.

Rentap, in his address to the youth, highlighted their roles in nation building and as the state’s future leaders.

“We, as leaders today, always want to see there are next in line of leaders among the youth, not only those from Sibu but from all over Sarawak to lead this state in future,” he said.

“Our Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) has a vision to make Sarawak a highly developed and high-income state by 2030.

“For that, it is important that the knowledge you have gained from this camp be put into practice so that we can all be more disciplined towards achieving that mission,” he told the young participants.

The youth camp, he said, also aimed to develop the potential of youth, while at the same time, build their self-confidence and guide them on life, social and leadership skills.

It also highlighted the importance of community values, positive thinking and attitude, creative thinking skills, competitiveness and the desire to excel in any field.
