KUCHING (July 30): Tonia Kisi, 24, from Kampung Stass was crowned the winner of the Redeems Gawai Carnival 2024 Dayung Sikora pageant organised by the Association of Research and Development Movement of Singai Sarawak (Redeems) in Bau last Saturday (July 27).
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Tonia, who is a chef, won a cash prize of RM2,500, a trophy, a sash, a hamper and a certificate of participation.
The runner-up title went to Farissa Angel Freddie from Kampung Tembawang Sauh, who received RM2,000 in cash, a trophy, a sash, a hamper and a certificate of participation.
Third place was awarded to Angela Tugau from Kampung Semukoi Serian, who took home RM1,500 in cash, a trophy, a sash, a hamper and a certificate of participation.
Participants adjudged as fourth and fifth place winners received RM1,000 and RM700 in cash respectively, plus a hamper and a certificate of participation each, while consolation prize winners received RM350 in cash together with a hamper and a certificate of participation each.
During the event’s opening ceremony, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expressed his full support for Redeems to be a future centre for cultural festivals.
