Karnival Tok Bok Nyo empowers youths with skills, opportunities

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Karnival Tok Bok Nyo 3.0 kicked off today (25 Sept) at The Summer Mall until 27 Sept.

The carnival aims at engaging the community, particularly youths, through activities spanning education, career development, entrepreneurship, heritage, sports and recreation.

State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Idris Buang said activities at the carnival serve as a healthy outlet that helps guide young people toward a more successful and organised life.

“Currently, the world faces many problems that can push people towards negative paths such as drug abuse, alcohol consumption and broken families.

“Hence such positive, community-driven activities held during the carnival help address stress and related challenges,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony.

He noted that such events were particularly beneficial for students who would soon transition from school to the next stage of their lives, especially those completing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

He said the exposure could give students a clearer picture of the opportunities ahead and help them make informed decisions about the direction they wished to pursue.

He also reminded students to remain grounded as they worked towards success and to always remember and appreciate the contributions of their parents and teachers.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali said the carnival, organised by MPKS in collaboration with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Samarahan, was meant to be more than an entertainment platform.

“This carnival is not just intended to provide entertainment and recreational activities, but we want to turn it into a space for the community to gain knowledge, build skills, hone talents and explore various opportunities available for the future,” he said.

The carnival also brought together various agencies offering the public direct access to information on education, skills training, social welfare and public services, including Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), CENTEXS, ADTEC JTM, the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG), PEMADAM, AADK, MyDigital ID, DUBS and Saberkas Muara Tuang.
