Katibas rep calls for multifaceted approach for rural development

KATIBAS assemblyman Lidam Assan highlighted the need for a multifaceted approach to rural development and socioeconomic progress, addressing the unique challenges faced by rural communities.

In his speech during the 2024 State Budget debate at the State Legislative Assembly sitting today (Nov 23), he outlined several development proposals aimed at enhancing the well-being of his constituency.

“I have submitted several development proposals for inclusion in the budget or for immediate implementation through various sources of funds. Among these proposals are the 7km Jalan Ulu Sg Bangkit and Ulu Katibas Bridge at Ng Bangkit,” he stated.

Lidam noted that his submissions align with the objectives of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 for his constituency.

“Key objectives include proposed road connectivity to remote communities spanning 143 km, strategic programmes to reduce the poverty rate from 6 per cent to 2 per cent, increasing the earning capacity from RM4,544 to RM15,000, achieving at least 4G digital connectivity, and improving the literacy rate to 100 per cent.”

He also inquired with the Ministry for Natural Resource and Urban Development (MUDeNR), Land and Survey Department about the perimeter survey covering approximately 263,000 acres under S6 Sg Tekalit, Sg Katibas, and Sg Bangkit. Originally scheduled to begin in 2023, Lidam expressed hope for an expedited ground survey in 2024.

He submitted applications for Skim Penempatan Semula (SPS) and Skim Pembesaran Kampung (SPK) to accommodate the increasing population in Song town areas. Additionally, he requested the expedited implementation of Anjung Usahawan and the Light Industrial Area.

“To date, we have six units of Pusat Incubator under Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). All this is to support our local entrepreneurs to improve their socioeconomic status,” he added.

He expressed gratitude to the staff from the State Planning Authority for their guidance in developing the Song Masterplan, which is currently undergoing the necessary approval process.
