KAPIT (Sept 12): The ‘Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang’ programme for the Song district level was launched at SJK(C) Hin Hua here yesterday in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration.

Jointly organised by the Sarawak Information Department and Song District Information Office, the event was officiated by Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan.

Lidam in his speech said the hosting of the programme at the school could instil the spirit of patriotism and unity, as well as bring cheer to the younger generations.

The programme was also attended by local communities from Temalat, Pekan Song, and Kebiau Takan, as well as veterans from the Malaysian Armed Forces (PVATM) Kapit branch, and members of government departments and associations.

“The involvement of the Madani communities, government departments, associations, pupils and teachers in this celebration is indeed a meaningful one,” added Lidam, while calling upon the civilians to fly the ‘Jalur Gemilang’.

“This celebration serves as a reminder of our country’s struggles towards gaining independence, and therefore, we should, at all costs, retain our sovereignty and uphold the unity and harmony in our society.”

Adding on, he said only through such stability that the government’s policies could be implemented effectively to bring about equal economic prosperity and sustainable growth for all civilians, both in the urban or rural areas.

Present at the event were Sarawak Information Department assistant director Rozzilawadi Nur Aziz; Song Information Officer Joseph Laga; Song Education Officer Etin Linggi; PVATM Kapit chairman Martin Bilun; and community leader Pemanca Lim Eng Hock.
