SIBU (Aug 28): Residents in Taman Kemuyang and Kenari Kemuyang have expressed their frustration and disappointment over the prolonged water supply disruption lasting more than two days since Aug 26.

This disruption coincided with unstable electricity supply, causing various difficulties for the residents.

Surau Darul Ukhuwah Kemuyang chairman Ariffin Bahar said the residents were frustrated with the Sibu Water Board (SWB) and Sarawak Energy for their perceived failure in providing an immediate response to address the crisis.

He highlighted that the absence of a water tanker for over 48 hours has caused significant inconvenience to residents.

“The residents were very disappointed with the lack of water supply for two days. When the water tanker arrived last night, it was only a small truck with a capacity of 4,000 litres and could not meet the needs of the residents,” explained Ariffin.

He added that as of this morning, water supply has not fully recovered, with low water pressure persisting.

Ariffin also expressed concern about the frequent power supply disruptions in the area, which further burden the residents.

He urged the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) to upgrade the lighting along Jalan Kemuyang, as the lack of lighting in the area poses a safety risk, especially for those commuting between Kemuyang and Sibu town at night.

He added that the situation is exacerbated by road surface damage caused by heavy vehicles from nearby construction sites.

Therefore, he called on the authorities, including the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), to be more proactive in enforcing regulations, especially against vehicles carrying excessive loads.
