BINTULU (Aug 26): A total of 29 teams, comprising children and family members of Tadika Kami from PRP Kidurong and PRP Sungai Plan, took part in a ‘Kids and Family Got Talent Show’ competition at Dewan Serbaguna Kemas PRP Sungai Plan here on Saturday.
Tadika Kami principal cum executive director Kenny Kong said the competition was organised in connection with the National Day celebration, aimed at unearthing talent among children and their family members.
“It can also foster better relationship, communication, and teamwork among the family members,” he said during his opening speech.
Kong remarked that modern electronic gadgets, such as smartphones and laptops, have ‘taken time away from quality family interaction, as each individual shifts their focus to screen-time’.
“Too much time on smartphones is an unhealthy lifestyle. It will lead to poor relationship among families, as well as health problems of the eyes, neck, shoulder and limbs.
“This is also among the reason why we urge children and their family members to take up more healthy activities like dancing, singing, modelling, martial arts, and learning musical instruments,” he said.
Among the presentations during the competition were singing, modelling, a cultural costume and dance, and a fashion show.
Speaking on Tadika Kami, Kong said the establishment not only focuses on the academic progress of its students, but also strives to instil a balance of emotional intelligence (EQ) and intelligence quotient (IQ) into its kindergarten syllabus.
“We should be serious when learning to achieve academic excellence, but we must also learn how to release stress by taking up some healthy forms of entertainment and hobbies,” he said.
