KUCHING: A total of RM15 million has been approved to address the flash flood challenges in Jalan Burung Durian, with an additional RM2.5 million designated for Taman Happy Valley.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap expressed recognition of the struggles faced by residents in these areas, enduring the repeated ordeal of flash floods.

As such, he expressed commitment to ensure expeditious execution of these projects.

“The implementation of the projects will be carried out by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID).

“I will follow up with the DID to ensure the implementation of these projects can be speeded up with realistic timelines and without further delays so that the benefits can be delivered to the residents who have long suffered much hardship every time a flash flood occurs,” he said.

He said this when representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Persatuan Masyarakat Taman Everbright Jaya and Taman Phoning Kuching here yesterday (Nov 25).

In light of recent legislative developments, Yap voiced optimism about the positive impact of the Ombudsman Ordinance on enhancing the efficiency of public services and infrastructure projects.

He said the passing of this ordinance is expected to streamline processes and elevate the overall quality of service delivery.

The event also saw Yap present a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM10,000.
