KPDN seizes 2,340kg of subsidised cooking oil, 936kg sugar in crackdown in Kuching

KUCHING (Oct 19): A total 2,340kg of subsidised cooking oil in 1kg polybags were seized from a premises at Jalan Setia Raja here recently following an inspection by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak enforcement team.

A statement from KPDN Sarawak said the inspection was made to detect illegal sales of controlled items following a public complaint about the online sales of cooking oil.

It revealed that the six member-enforcement team not only found the subsidised cooking oil polybags there, but also 936kg of granulated sugar in 1kg packets.

It also said the estimated value of the seized goods was RM8,517.60, and the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 for unlawful possession of controlled items.

“The members of the public are requested to be eyes and ears to help the Ministry by providing information on malpractices related to subsidized controlled goods.

“This is to ensure that such activities can be eradicated to prevent huge losses to the people and the country,” KPDN said.
