KUCHING, July 12: The upgrading of a section of the coastal road between Kampung Bakam to Sepupok junction in Niah, costing RM160 million, is currently in the planning stage, and the Sarawak government will call for tender within a month.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this after launching the RM850,000 Borneo Evangelical Missionary (BEM) Church at Saeh, Bekenu, today.
He also said that the upgrading of the road from Rambai to Kampung Bulau in Bekenu costs RM60 million, and the federal government will call for tender as soon as possible.
Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said the Sarawak government had also approved the construction of a RM10 million bridge at Kampung Balau, Bekenu.
“We hope to call for its construction tender in September this year,” he said in a statement today.
On the new BEM church, the Minister in charge of the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) said Unifor would continue to assist in the physical development of all non-Muslim houses of worship.
He urged the people to approach the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) representatives in their constituencies for assistance in applying for grants from Unifor.
