Kuala Baram dredging works near completion at 90 pct, ahead of schedule

MIRI, Sept 21: The Kuala Baram dredging project, implemented by the Miri Port Authority (MPA), has reached about 90 per cent completion, ahead of the contract schedule.

In a TVS report, MPA said it conveyed the progress to Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi during his visit to the project site in Kuala Baram today.

Majang, together with officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD), was briefed by MPA general manager Serawa Budol, the project consultant and contractor, on the latest progress.

He also inspected the physical progress of the works currently underway at the site.

MPA said the approximately 90 per cent completion rate indicated that the project was progressing well and ahead of the schedule stipulated in the contract.

The visit also reflected the Sarawak government’s commitment, through MIPD, to ensuring that port sector development is carried out in a planned manner, responsive to industry needs and aligned with the aspirations of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

MPA said port authorities in Sarawak would continue to enhance capacity, operational efficiency and sustainability to strengthen the competitiveness of the State’s port sector.

These efforts are important in strengthening the role of Sarawak’s ports as catalysts for the State’s economic growth. — DayakDaily
