Kuala Baram drilling project reaches 90 percent, ahead of schedule

MIRI, 21 Sept: The project of Kuala Baram Drilling Works and Related Works implemented by the Miri Port Authority (MPA) is now about 90 percent complete, thus preceding schedule set in contract.

MPA in a statement said the development was notified to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Majang Renggi, when he visited the project site in Kuala Baram today.

According to the statement, Datuk Majang along with officials of Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) were briefed by MPA General Manager, Serawa Budol, project consultants as well as contractors regarding current development of the project.

He also reviewed the physical progress of the work being carried out at the site.

The MPA said the progress of about 90 percent showed that the project was on track and ahead of schedule as stipulated in the contract.

The visit also reflected the commitment of the Government of Sarawak through MIPD to ensure that the port sector development is implemented in a systematic manner, responsive to industry needs and in line with the aspirations of Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to MPA, the port authorities in Sarawak will continue to improve capacity, operational efficiency and sustainability to strengthen the competitiveness of the port sector.

The effort is essential to strengthen the role of Sarawak's ports as among the catalysts for the state's economic growth. - TVS
