KUCHING (Sept 18): Utama Toastmasters Club in Kuching and Debaters Toastmasters Club in Bangkok, Thailand will be organising a Joint Open House tomorrow (Sept 19).

The event is part of the Toastmasters International’s ongoing effort to spearhead communication and leadership skills development initiatives for the benefit of the populace.

Utama Toastmasters Club president Raymond Chin said members of the public are welcome to join the event, to be held via Zoom at 7.30pm.

“The highlight of the Joint Open House will be a debate competition between both clubs. With the motion, ‘This House Believes Size Does Not Matter’, the competition will showcase the debating prowess of two formidable teams.

“Utama Toastmasters Club will be represented by Datuk Dr John Lau, Haady Gordon and Stanley Gona Chee Khiong, while Paul O’Mahony, June Krairiksh and Lee Buckley will represent Debaters Toastmasters Club,” he said in a press release.

Chin emphasised the significance of debates at Toastmasters International in developing real-world skills for individuals to thrive and not just survive in today’s ever-changing and vibrant global environment.

“By developing essential debating skills, one can raise the bar especially in the area of communicating effectively, thinking analytically and presenting oneself professionally.

“This will be a wonderful opportunity for members of the public to learn about Toastmasters and the opportunities available to enhance their communication, debating and leadership skills,” he said.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation that teaches communication/public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs in a friendly and supportive environment.
