KUCHING (July 26): With over 300 stalls lining the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) compound, the Kuching Festival’s Food Fair kicked off in style this year, drawing thousands of visitors to the festival grounds as early as 6pm today.
The lively atmosphere is immediately noticeable with food stalls offering a variety of dishes that infuses the air with mouth watering aromas and vendors selling non-food items inside the Kuching Community Hall.
Behind each stall were the vendors who were clad in colourful aprons and hats as they skillfully prepared their culinary creations and creativity to offer everything from traditional Sarawakian dishes to innovative fusion cuisine.
“This is my second time at the festival,” said Tang’s Recipe chef Hozi Cong when met by the Borneo Post, while roasting his charcoal spit whole lamb.
Based in Miri, Cong said all the cooking wares were brought from Miri, while the lamb was ordered from New Zealand through a local importer.
“I feel that this year, the turnout will be much better as compared to last year.
“Even today, which is the first day of the festival, we can already see a lot of people,” he added.
Throughout the evening, also seen were groups of families and friends who wandered the festival’s compound to explore the vast array of culinary delights.
