KUCHING (Sept 1): Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has called for collective support for the Salvation Army in their ongoing mission to aid the underprivileged in society.
Wee described the Salvation Army’s annual Sale of Work charity programme as a testament to the enduring spirit of compassion and generosity within the community.
“This is more than just an event; it is a symbol of hope, kindness, and the unwavering commitment of the Salvation Army to support the underprivileged in our society,” he said when officiating at the charity sales programme here yesterday.
Wee emphasised the crucial role the Salvation Army has played as a beacon of support, extending a helping hand to those in need.
“Throughout the years, the Salvation Army has made remarkable contributions to our State.
“From providing food and shelter to the homeless, to empowering youth through education and skills training, the Salvation Army has touched countless lives, offering not just assistance, but also dignity and hope,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to the various non-governmental organisations, churches, corporate partners, and individual volunteers who have come together to contribute their time, energy, and resources, making the event a success.
“Your collective efforts have transformed this day into one of wholesome family fun, all while supporting a worthy cause.
“Your spirit of collaboration and generosity embodies the very essence of what it means to be a community,” he said.
Wee urged everyone to remember that even small actions can bring about positive change.
He called for ongoing support of the Salvation Army’s work, encouraging the community to maintain the momentum and work together to build a better, more compassionate Kuching.
