ADVERTISE HERE

Kong speaks to one of the affected homeowners.
KUCHING (Feb 12): The property developer whose crane toppled onto two houses at Lorong Stutong Baru 4 here must take full responsibility for the damage caused, said Michael Kong.
The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak assistant publicity secretary said due to the extensive roof damage, the occupants of both houses will have to relocate temporarily for safety reasons while repair works are carried out.
“The affected families should not be left to bear the financial burden of an incident that was clearly beyond their control,” he said in a statement.
Kong, who visited the two houses following the incident, said the developer had sent a representative to the site and assured that they would undertake the necessary roof repairs and make good the structural damage caused.
He added that beyond roof repairs, there were also personal belongings and household items that were damaged as a result of the incident.
“The developer must take full responsibility for these losses and ensure that the homeowners are adequately compensated.”
Kong, who is special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, expressed relief that no one was injured.
“It could have been far worse, and we are thankful that all residents are safe,” he said.
He also said his office would continue to monitor the situation and assist the homeowners in securing proper repairs and compensation.
At the same time, he called for construction site safety to be prioritised and for a thorough investigation to be conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future.
