KUCHING (July 14): The Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) has unveiled the ‘ABC Plan’ – ‘Aman’, ‘Bahagia’, and ‘Ceria’ – in its efforts to create a peaceful, happy and cheerful working environment in support of its transformation agenda.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said the initiative is in line with LAKMNS’ agenda to evolve as a trust body with corporate values.

“This plan includes aspects such as setting focus areas and key performance indicators, and will be a catalyst for the effectiveness of our future programmes,” he said in his address at the Maal Hijrah celebration at Masjid Jamek here today.

He expressed hope that this plan could serve as an example for other mosques and suraus in Sarawak, in implementing their enrichment agendas.

“LAKMNS, as the organiser of the event, hopes that it will bring the mosque and the community closer together.

“At the same time, the local community can understand the functions and roles of the mosque, not just as a place of worship but also as a community activity centre,” he said.

Among the event’s highlights yesterday were the presentation of prizes to two grand lucky draw winners who won themselves an umrah (haj) package, booth sales, e-sport competitions, and a children’s colouring contest.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to officiate at the closing of the ceremony.

Also present were Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha, LAKMNS board members, heads of Islamic departments and agencies, and community leaders.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who spoke to reporters after the event, said that Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) would issue an official statement soon regarding the relocation of food traders operating at Kuching Waterfront.

Kuching North Datuk Bandar Hilmy Othman had announced in February this year that all stalls operating at the waterfront would be permanently relocated to the nearby esplanade near Brooke Dockyard to accommodate the pavement upgrading project.

He said the upgrading project was long overdue and that it was part of DBKU’s comprehensive redevelopment master plan to rejuvenate the stretch of the riverside.
