KUCHING (Nov 21): Cahya Mata Cement has signed technical consultancy agreements with Sinoma Industry, a subsidiary of Tianjin Cement Industry and Research Institute (TCDR).

This latest deal would have Sinoma Industry running a comprehensive study and technical analysis for Cahya Mata Cement’s plans to construct a new clinker line and optimise its existing facilities.

“The technical assessment and studies undertaken by Sinoma Industry are expected to optimise the manufacturing capabilities at Cahya Mata Cement’s existing Mambong Line 1 and ensure the success in the turnkey project for Clinker Line 2,” said Cahya Mata Cement in an announcement yesterday.

Sinoma Industry would conduct a technical study for Mambong Line 1, focusing on technology transfer to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness; thus, enabling Cahya Mata Cement to implement targeted initiatives for optimising production.

Additionally, the findings would support the potential establishment of a research and development (R&D) unit for new clinker, cement and concrete products at Mambong Line 1 facilities.

On the other hand, a technical assessment for the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of Clinker Line 2 at Mambong would also be conducted by Sinoma Industry.

“The new line is anticipated to produce 6,000 metric tonnes daily, or 1.9 million metric tonnes annually,” added Cahya Mata Cement.

Commenting on the collaboration, Cahya Mata Group chairman Tan Sri Dr Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin said it demonstrated the continual commitment towards the development of Sarawak, in view of the group’s business ‘representing an integral and vital part of the construction supply chain’.

“We are confident about our venture for our cement business due to our partnership with a global reputable company such as Sinoma Industry, which has vast experience and technical expertise in the development of cement plants across the globe.

“The new Clinker Line 2 will provide us adequate reserve production capacity to materially reduce the risk of supply disruptions, provide additional gateways to nearby export markets and the capability to produce multiple types of cement.

“Furthermore, this timely expansion would further improve the Group’s operational efficiency as a whole,” he said.

Sinoma Industry managing director Liu Tao remarked: “We are honoured with the collaboration as it provides us an opportunity to collaborate with Cahya Mata once more.

“We look forward to working closely with the group in realising their vision for the economic development of Sarawak, providing innovative solutions and reinforcing our position as a global leader in cement plant development.

‘Collectively, we aim to create a lasting impact on the cement industry of Borneo as a whole, fostering sustainable growth through technological advancement.”

Cahya Mata Sarawak group managing director Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib, Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd acting head of division (cement) Choong Ju Tang, Tianjin Cement Industry and Research Institute vice-president Sun Jian, and Cahya Mata Cement Sdn Bhd chairman Dr Joe Khor Jaw Hui, were present at the signing ceremony.
