MIRI: Residents with culinary dreams can now turn them into reality with the launch of the Program Usahawan Makanan Miri (UMAMI).
This initiative targets individuals from households earning less than RM4,850 monthly, providing them with the training and support needed to transform their passion into profitable businesses.
A collaborative effort between SAGO Group, Hong Leong Foundation, and local partners like Pustaka Miri, The Brew Crew, and SMTC International, UMAMI offers a comprehensive package of training, mentorship, and strategic guidance to help aspiring entrepreneurs flourish.
“UMAMI is more than just a business programme; it’s about creating opportunities and empowering those who need it most.
“Through hands-on training and continuous mentorship, UMAMI equips participants with the tools they need to thrive,” said SAGO Group director Arif Abdul Rahman.
Highlighting the foundation’s commitment to impactful community initiatives, Hong Leong Foundation executive director Quek Sue Yian said that the foundation aimed to create lasting positive change.
“UMAMI aligns perfectly with our mission of empowering individuals through education and support, fostering sustainable, long-term benefits for the community,” she said.
Meanwhile, Miri City Council (MCC) Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said UMAMI offered genuine opportunities for growth and development within community.
“We strongly support programs that empower our residents and contribute to our city’s progress.
“Our dedication to improving residents’ lives is evident through initiatives like affordable housing projects and skills development workshops. UMAMI complements these efforts by providing a roadmap for success in the food industry,” he said.
