MIRI (Sept 23): The Ling Family Higher Education Fund has in its plan to extend its reach to Sabah to help students from poor families pursue their tertiary education.
In stating this, the fund’s founder and manager Alan Ling explained that this was part of their social responsibility to give back to the community in Sabah.
“My family members and I are from Sarawak but many of us in the second and third generations are also conducting our businesses in Sabah and some have even settled there.
“Many (of the Ling’s family members) have given back to the society in their local area, especially on education matters such as donations for the construction of school buildings in Limbang, Sarawak and in Beaufort, Sabah,” he said.
This education fund initiative, he added, was also taken upon considering the challenges faced by the Sarawak and Sabah students upon their acceptance into higher learning institutions in Peninsular Malaysia.
“For now, we will focus our attention towards helping the underprivileged children of Sabah and Sarawak to enable them to pursue their tertiary education.”
The Ling Family Higher Education Fund – a culmination of the family’s business ventures in the rubber and palm oil industries, constructions, as well as trading and restaurant businesses – has benefitted over 50 local students to date.
Recently, the financial assistance, which included personal accident insurance coverage, was distributed to the student recipients at the L&P Consultant Services office here.
The aid was presented by Alan’s father TK Ling.
Also present to witness the handover was the fund’s co-partner from L&P Consultant Services Lim Pang Ting.
