MIRI (Sept 11): Three women were among 10 foreign workers arrested by the Immigration Department during a raid on a logging camp in Long Lama yesterday.

In a Facebook post, the Immigration Department said the remoteness of the location did not prevent the authorities from conducting the operation dubbed ‘Ops Mahir’.

“Acting on a complaint and intelligence over a few weeks, the team raided the logging camp at around 10am when the workers were busy at work.

“A total of 25 people were checked, but only 10 were detained for committing various immigration offences,” the department said.

Among the offences committed were overstaying and not having a valid pass to be in the country.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act.

“Members of the public who have any information related to illegal immigrants are asked to channel their information to the nearest Immigration office or online,” added the department.
