SIBU: A dragon dance performance featuring the longest dragon in Sarawak will light up the Mid-Autumn Festival Night 2024 celebration at the Farley Sibu stage in Jalan Salim here on Sept 7 (Saturday) at 6.30pm.
According to Farley Sibu’s human resources executive Sie Sing Ying, the event is jointly organised by the Youth Wing of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong Branch and Farley Sibu in conjunction with the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Sept 17.
“The 200-foot-long dragon will certainly enhance the festive atmosphere,” she said.
“In addition to the dragon dance performance, the celebration wouldn’t be complete without a lion dance. People attending our event will truly feel the excitement of the festival,” she added at a press conference held at the Farley Sibu premises on Tuesday (Sept 3).
Also present were SUPP Dudong Branch Youth chairman Cr Yiing Sy Huat, and organising chairperson Ngu Xing Ling.
Sie mentioned that both the lion and dragon dance performances will be presented by the Seng Zhi Shen Lion and Dragon Dance Association.
Additionally, about 500 mooncakes will be distributed to attendees on a first come, first served basis.
She noted that a traditional Chinese costume competition will also be held, featuring 20 male and female participants.
Meanwhile, other activities will include a riddle contest and 15 lucky draws offering attractive prizes.
“We warmly welcome everyone, regardless of race or religion, to join in the festivities and celebrate together,” Sie said.
“We have invited Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing to officiate the event as the guest of honour,” she added.
