Lorry attendant dies, two others injured in fatal crash

BINTULU: A lorry attendant died on the spot while two others were injured after their three-tonne lorry skidded and crashed to the roadside yesterday (July 24).

The fatal accident happened around 2.27 pm near Kampung Nyalau, here.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Samalaju station were dispatched to the scene, about 10km away, after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found one of the victims still trapped in the lorry, while the other two had managed to exit the vehicle on their own.

Extrication works were carried out using rescue tools to remove the trapped victim from the lorry, which had overturned on its side.

The victim, identified as Ricky Nelson, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was later handed over to the police for further action.

Meanwhile, the 71-year-old driver and another 23-year-old lorry attendant sustained minor injuries. Both were taken to Bintulu Hospital for further treatment.
