MIRI (Sept 21): A lorry driver died after he was hit by car on the coastal road near Niah here on Thursday.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the accident occurred at 8.40am and the lorry driver was outside his trailer lorry when the accident took place.

“The accident caused severe damage to the car but the 25-year-old car driver only suffered minor injuries to his legs and hands.

“The 51-year-old lorry driver who was hit was confirmed dead at the scene and the lorry was left with damages on its right side,” he said in a statement.

Alexson said in the incident, the car was coming from the direction of Kampung Iran towards Sepupok, Niah when it lost control.

“Investigations at the scene found the car had entered the opposite lane after losing control before hitting the lorry driver who was outside on the right side of the lorry,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
