STEP 1: Make a police report at a police station or online

Head over to your nearest police station to report your lost IC or MyKad. This step is important to prevent your identity from being stolen, or worse still, used for criminal purposes like theft and fraud.

You will need to indicate when and where you lost your IC or MyKad — the resulting police report will serve as proof of your lost IC.

Alternatively, you can make an e-report instead of visiting a police station. This only applies if you lost your IC or MyKad due to negligence (not crime related), and if you are located in Kuala Lumpur.

You used to be able to replace your lost MyKad without a police report via government portal MyEG. However, the service is no longer available at the time of writing.

STEP 2: Head over to a JPN counter with your police report

Bring along your police report to get your IC or MyKad replaced.

You can get your new IC within 30 minutes at certain JPN branches, or within the usual processing time of five working days* for applications in Peninsular Malaysia or seven working days* for applications in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.

*This timeframe applies to MyKad or IC applications by Malaysian citizens and applications with no complications.

STEP 3: Pay the application fee and processing fee for lost IC

Fees for loss of MyKad and MyTentera

Application fee: RM10

Processing fee: RM100 (first time), RM300 (second time), RM1,000 (third and subsequent times)

Fees for loss of MyPR and MyKAS

Processing fee: RM100 (first time), RM300 (second time), RM1,000 (third and subsequent times)
