KUCHING (Sept 18): The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak will enhance its collaboration with other enforcement agencies in the state to ensure all commercial vehicle operators adhere to regulations, said its chairman Michael Kong.
He emphasised the board’s commitment to taking action against non-compliant commercial vehicle operators.
“Although LPKP Sarawak does not have direct enforcement powers, we have been collaborating closely with JPJ (Road Transport Department) and the police to ensure that action is taken against those who disregard road safety,” he said in a statement.
According to Kong, JPJ has been actively cracking down on commercial vehicles, particularly on lorries, to address serious safety concerns.
From January to August this year, a total of 7,417 traffic summonses were issued, with the main offences being dangerous loading, tyre treads issues, unauthorised vehicle modifications and permit-related violations.
During the same period, the police issued 5,658 compounds against commercial vehicles, primarily for dangerous loading, speeding and driving license infractions.
“Moving forward, LPKP Sarawak will intensify our efforts by seeking partnerships with other state enforcement agencies to ensure all operators comply with the laws and that safety standards are being met.
“We want to create a safe environment for all road users and we take public feedback very seriously.
“Our ears are always open to the concerns of the people, and we will continue to act in the best interests of Sarawak’s road users,” he added.
