Lubok Antu, Kanowit schools temporarily closed as API exceeds 200

KUCHING, Sept 21: The Sarawak Education Department (JPN Sarawak) has decided to temporarily close all primary and secondary schools under the Lubok Antu and Kanowit District Education Offices (PPDs), effective immediately.

In a statement, the department said that following the closures, Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) would be implemented in accordance with the Ministry of Education (MOE) guidelines on managing teaching and learning during disasters.

“For schools located near districts where API readings exceed 200, headmasters and principals may consider implementing PdPR, taking into account students’ health and safety.

“If the API trend shows a decline to below 200, schools may make preparations to reopen,” the statement said.

Schools were also reminded to comply with prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and refer to MOE guidelines on measures to ensure students’ health and safety in areas affected by critical haze conditions.

As of 9am today, the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Lubok Antu and Kanowit reached the ‘very unhealthy’ level at 205 and 209, respectively. — DayakDaily
