SRI AMAN: Federal Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni has called on the Public Works Department (JKR) Sri Aman Division to promptly resolve the 1,206 damages identified at the Sri Aman Hospital.
He suggested that Sri Aman JKR appoint a third party to expedite the repairs, as these damages are hindering the hospital’s efficient operation.
“One prominent damage is the ceiling in the pharmacy unit, leading to increased humidity. During my inspection, I also observed non-operational wards due to ceiling damages caused by damp conditions.
“Currently, we have identified over 1,200 damages within the hospital premises. Although these damages do not directly impact the hospital’s operation, they pose critical concerns regarding the ceiling and the existing piping system.
“These damages are affecting the daily operations at Sri Aman Hospital,” he said after his working visit to the hospital on Friday (Jan 19).
Additionally, he acknowledged receiving complaints from dialysis patients, which are not related to the hospital itself but rather pertain to the wellbeing of these patients.
Consequently, he pledged efforts to enhance the operation of the dialysis centre here, possibly by maximising the use of the old block of the hospital, necessitating a substantial budget for refurbishment and renovation.
On a separate note, he addressed concerns about the lack of connectivity in the hospital, a national issue for large hospital areas.
He said that telephone lines should not only surround the hospital but also be accessible within the building.
To address this, he welcomed other telecom companies to operate and set up cell towers to improve connectivity within the building.
“I have reached out to the director of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Sarawak, and we are exploring options to address the connectivity issues. Currently, the nearest tower belongs to Maxis, and there have been no reported call connectivity issues.”
