Lutong fire station chief: Uptick in snakes, monitor lizards caught in residential areas

MIRI (July 30): Lutong fire station chief Henry Jugah has reminded members of the public to be cautious of their residential surroundings and to maintain cleanliness to prevent snakes or monitor lizards from entering their house.

He noted that the number of snakes and monitor lizards caught in residential areas has increased recently.

“It is especially during heatwaves that these reptiles search for cool shelters and food, often entering houses within their vicinity,” he told reporters today.

Henry disclosed that that the total number of cases involving snakes that was handled by the Lutong fire station from January to July this year was 27, with Senadin accounting for 11 cases, Lutong, Kuala Baram and Tudan for five each, and Permyjaya for one.

He said the Lutong fire station also responded to 12 cases related to monitor lizards, with three incidents in Senadin, two each in Lutong, Permyjaya, and Desaras, and one each in Kuala Baram, Pulau Melayu, and Tudan.
