KUCHING: Kuching citizen must continue to ensure the city remains clean, safe, green and vibrant.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the people must strive to create a healthy, liveable, and economically thriving city for future generations.
“The city of Kuching belongs to all of us, and it is our collective responsibility to make it the best it can be.
“In the spirit of the MBKS slogan “My City, Your City, Our City”, let us take pride and ownership of our Kuching,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony of Kuching Food Festival or Kuching Festival 2024 at MBKS Theatre here on Tuesday (July 30).
On the festival, he said it is a testament to how the past, present and future are intricately linked.
“It is a celebration of the enduring legacy bestowed upon us by our elders and a pledge to safeguard and pass this heritage to future generations,” he added.
He welcomed delegates from Guro, South Korea, Zhenjiang, Quanzhou, Dong Cheng, Taian, Chongzhour, China and Asuke, Japan to the festivals
“Your presence symbolises the strength and warmth of our international friendships.
“As the Chinese saying goes, “A close friend from afar brings a distant land near”.
May your time in Kuching be both fruitful and enjoyable,” he said.
Wee said the Kuching Festival serves as a vibrant platform for Kuchingnites to come together and celebrate the diverse food and culture.
“It is an opportunity to share these treasures with our international delegates and visitors.
“Your participation is crucial to the success of the event and I urge everyone to engage wholeheartedly in the festival’s activities,” he added.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian. The festival runs from July 26 to Aug 18.
