ADVERTISE HERE
MIRI: The Dayak Association Miri (DAM) has been told to organise more cultural events such as Iban traditional dances to attract tourists, especially those from abroad.
In saying that, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan expressed the belief it would help to promote tourism in addition to lure visitors to come here and Sarawak generally.
His text of speech was read by political secretary Sudan Clement during DAM’s cultural night programme here on Saturday night.
“Perhaps, DAM can establish a World Traditional Ethnic Dance Festival to lure visitors to come to Miri,” he pointed out.
This year, Snowdan added, Sarawak was expecting more than three million visitor arrivals.
“Take this opportunity to generate income by actively participating and create events that promote our culture to attract tourists,” he said.
At the same time, Snowdan announced an allocation worth RM10,000 to DAM in support of its programmes.
Also present during DAM’s culture night were DAM senior advisor Senator Datuk Dr Nuing Jeluing, DAM president Penghulu Wilfred Mac and Pemanca Alexander Isut Karin.
