Malaysia Day: Kuching is back in the spotlight tonight

KUCHING, Sept. 16: Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK) here is in focus tonight as about 5,000 attendees are expected to flood the venue to attend the 2026 Malaysia Day National Exhibition.

This year's nationwide Malaysia Day celebration saw Sarawak re-elected as a venue for the festival after last hosting the event in 2023.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. with a pre-show segment before the arrival of guests beginning at 7.30 p.m.

The honourable guests of the ceremony were the Sarawak State Elder Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar along with his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Sarawak Prime Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Chief Minister Sabah Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor are also scheduled to attend.

In addition to the Prime Minister's speech, the official event which started at 8.15pm also saw the signing of the Special Book of Sambutan Day Malaysia.

Sambutan also featured a combined performance of guest artists, theatre musicals and final performances involving three provinces, namely Peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak.

People around Kuching also had the opportunity to watch a fireworks display on Kuching Strait in conjunction with the celebration.

In addition to the evening's summit, various fillings were also held, including the Malaysia Day Sambutan exhibition which took place from 10 to 16 September at Plaza Merdeka here.

Two Thanksgiving ceremonies were also held, namely the Thanksgiving of Other Religions on September 14 at Pullman Hotel and the Thanksgiving on September 15 at Jamek State Mosque here. -TVS
