KUCHING, Dec 29: The negative and crass politics in Malaysia have to go and must be replaced by reconciliation and appeasement or else the economy will never recover or improve, says political pundit Dato Peter Minos.

He said this year’s economy had been difficult with the rising high cost of living and the falling value of the Malaysian Ringgit, with many hoping that this situation will improve next year.

While the federal government has indicated that betterment is likely for next year, considering that Malaysia has attained high-income status, export increase, stable currency and big revenue from oil and gas, Minos said the public in both urban and rural folks could not agree that.

“Many are complaining about the high cost of living, especially among the low-income group.

“Many are worried about the future as they see the top national leaders keep fighting each other, giving the feeling of instability and uncertainty.

“This is not conducive to foreign and local businessmen or investors,” he said in a statement today.

With the latest addition of Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan as the Second Minister in the Federal Cabinet, Minos hoped that the former’s corporate finance experience would see his new economic ideas and strategies proposed and materialised soon.

“The negative and crass politics we see now has to go and must be replaced by reconciliation and appeasement. It cannot continue as it is now, or our economy will never recover and improve.

“Reconciliation from all is badly required as people and investors are very tired of political acrimony and turmoil,” he added.

On the other hand, Minos also mentioned that Sarawak is very lucky as its leaders play it calmly and coolly with patience and reasonableness in solving any political issues, always with the overall Sarawak’s interests in mind.

“Thus, Sarawak can embark on new industries and manufacturing without any political problems.

“There is thus political stability and certainty—two things that investors and businessmen badly need and desire,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
