SIBU (Oct 18): A total of 718 out of 1,161 young Sarawakians have advanced to the Malaysia Techlympics 2024 national grand final, taking place in Putrajaya this Nov 17 and 18.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said this represents the largest representation among the participating states.
“One of the main goals of the Malaysia Techlympics is to promote science, technology and innovation (STI), especially students and youths.
“The state government views this programme as an excellent platform to showcase and introduce new technologies and innovations, while also sparking interest in the field of technology,” he said when officiating at the Sarawak Zone Malaysia Techlympics 2024 at the indoor stadium here today.
Sagah said the state government’s involvement in supporting the programme reflected its commitment to fostering a culture of STI among the local community.
He added that the Malaysia Techlympics served as a competition grounded in STI, designed to help participants learn and apply the latest technologies through hands-on innovation projects such as robotics, drones, coding, and more.
As such, he urged teachers to stay active in STI-related activities and continue to support the Malaysia Techlympics through outreach programmes and online competitions, which will run until mid-November.
Sagah also commended teachers and students from across Sarawak for their dedication and participation in the Malaysia Techlympics 2024.
“My deepest appreciation to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak; and other stakeholders including representatives from state departments and agencies, for their direct and indirect support in making this programme a success,” he said.
