KUCHING (Aug 9): The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has called on authorities to investigate a recent incident involving trespassing and the impersonation of hospital staff.

Its president Dr Azizan Abdul Aziz expressed serious concern over the matter, referencing the case of a 14-year-old who was caught trespassing and impersonating hospital personnel.

“This breach in security can potentially put the health and lives of patients at risk.

“We urge the authorities to tighten up its security system, particularly its identification of staff, to ensure no repeat of such incidents,” she said in a recent statement, stressing that patient safety and privacy must always be the highest priority.

The MMA also urged the hospital involved to conduct a thorough investigation to determine if the incident had any impact on patient care.

Dr Azizan further suggested the mental health of the teenage girl be assessed, noting that it is unusual for someone of that age to engage in such behaviour.

On Aug 8, the teenager was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and impersonating a medical officer at the Hospital Idris Shah lobby in Serdang.
