SARATOK, Sept 14: A 50-year-old local man was arrested after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with a wooden pallet and threatening her with a machete at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Nyabor, Kabong, last Thursday (Sept 10).

According to a TVS report, Saratok District Police Chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the incident occurred when the 35-year-old victim was with the suspect at the plantation before an argument broke out after she rejected the suspect’s marriage proposal, saying she was not yet ready.

“The suspect then became aggressive and pointed a machete at the victim twice, but she managed to evade him.

“He then hit the victim with a wooden pallet, causing injuries to her left finger, a wound on her right hand, and bruises on her back,” he said yesterday (Sept 14).

Acting on information received at about 3pm yesterday, the suspect was found by the roadside along Jalan Dato Edward Jerah, Saratok, and was arrested.

“Investigations found that the suspect admitted to pointing a machete, which he had taken from the boot of his car, at the victim before hitting her with a wooden pallet.

“He also admitted to threatening to kill the victim if he discovered that she was in a relationship with another man,” he added.

He said investigations found that the couple had been in a relationship for eight years, while the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Police are investigating the case under Sections 324 and 506 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
