Man arrested on suspicion of arson in Sri Aman

SARATOK, 22 September: A 36-year-old local man was arrested by police in Saratok last night on suspicion of treason with a reported fire in Sri Aman.

Saratok District Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie said the suspect was detained by a police team from the Regional Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD), Saratok District Police Headquarters (IPD) at about 7.15pm.

"The arrests were made following reports of treason by fire involving a convenience store premises in Jalan Kecil, Sri Aman.

"The investigation found the suspect was from Sarikei and had been running a restaurant business in Pekan Saratok for about 10 years", he said in a statement today.

According to him, the urine filter test on the suspect was negative, while police also confiscated a cell phone to help with the investigation.

"The suspect has eight previous records involving various offenses in several districts of Sarawak.

"The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code and suspects have been handed over to BSJD Sri Aman for further action", he said.
