MARUDI, Sept 14: A 40-year-old man died after he was trapped underneath a heavy machinery in Long Seridan, Marudi, on Sunday (Sept 13).

In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 2.08pm, and firefighters from the Marudi station were deployed.

The team arrived at the scene at about 9.49pm, with the journey taking several hours due to the long distance of 261km and difficult road conditions.

According to the report, the rescue team had to travel along slippery and badly potholed logging roads, cross a river and continue for another four kilometres by land before reaching the site.

The victim, Mancha Lingan, had already been confirmed dead by a medical officer from Long Seridan Health Clinic before the firefighters arrived.

Upon reaching the scene, firefighters found the victim trapped underneath the bulldozer. The operation commander instructed the team to deploy rescue equipment, including power-unit rescue tools and two airbags.

However, the initial attempt to free the victim proved difficult because of his position beneath the heavy machinery.

The rescue team subsequently coordinated with auxiliary police personnel at the scene and obtained assistance from a mechanic, who used an oxygen-gas cutter to remove the heavy machinery’s wheel chain and facilitate the rescue operation.

The victim was eventually extricated from beneath the machinery. He was found to have suffered severe injuries to his abdomen and right leg.

His body was handed over to the auxiliary police for further action and was transported to Marudi Hospital.

The rescue operation was brought under control at 11pm and concluded at 11.22pm. — DayakDaily
