Man found dead in forest

SIBURAN: The body of an elderly man, reported missing on Monday after failing to return home from a forest near Kampung Beradau while searching for vegetable, has been found yesterday morning (July 23).

The deceased, identified as 60-year-old Lucian Singip, was found by rescuers at 10.05am.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the body was discovered about 200 metres away from the search and rescue (SAR) control post.

Examinations by paramedics confirmed that Lucian died at the scene. His body was then taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Following that, the SAR operation was officially called off 11.27am.

On Monday (July 22) afternoon, Lucian left his house to search for ‘asam paya’ in a forest along Jalan Kuching-Serian.

After he failed to return home by 6pm, his family reported his disappearance to the authorities.

Firefighters from Siburan station was dispatched to the scene, about 11km away, after receiving a distress call at 7.10pm to initiate the search operation.
